Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh made a befitting comeback to Test cricket as the Bison scored a run-a-ball 118 in the first innings of the third Ashes Test. Coming in to bat at No.5, when Australia were reeling at 85/4 after Steve Smith’s dismissal, Marsh took the attack to the opposition and launched a counterattack.
The 31-year-old all-rounder, who was included ahead of Cameron Green, proved his selection right and scored a half-century in no time (off 59 deliveries). While the Aussies were still lauding Marsh for his fifty and England were planning on how to dismiss him, the all-rounder brought up his first hundred away from home off just 102 deliveries.
Marsh hit 17 fours and four sixes in his inning and never really allowed the England bowlers to dominate him. Although the Australian got a reprieve early in his inning, Marsh did not err too much during his stay at the crease. The 31-year-old entertained the away crowd with his muscular shots.

While the fans in the stadium cheered with their hearts out when Marsh reached his third Test century, social media was filled with praiseworthy tweets for the swashbuckling batter. While some were just happy about the comeback man, a few took aim at England and poked fun by stating that Marsh was making Ben Stokes and Co. taste their own medicine.

Talking about Australia’s first inning, Mitchell Marsh’s century and his century partnership with Travis Head (who scored 39) were the only two things to cheer about. The rest of the batters failed miserably and eventually, Australia were bowled out for 263.
