Mitchell Starc might not be consistent at picking wickets but the left-arm pacer does know how to take big wickets. Whenever there has been a challenge, Starc has stepped up and he did the same in the fifth Ashes Test. The left-arm quick got England captain Ben Stokes with a stylish delivery and brought flashbacks of the 2019 ODI World Cup.
Just like how Starc had clean-bowled Stokes with a peach of a delivery in the league game of the 2019 World Cup, the pacer got the England captain again in the fifth Test. It was a good-length delivery that straightened up after pitching and left Stokes baffled.
In the 39th over of England’s first innings, Starc was handed the ball to break the partnership between Stokes and Harry Brook and the pacer did not disappoint his captain. On the third delivery of the over, Starc bowled from over the wicket and pitch the ball on a good length. Stokes, meanwhile, stayed on the back foot and tried to defend it.
But the batter was outdone by the outswing on the delivery. While Stokes played for the line, the ball whizzed past the willow and hit the timber, leaving the England captain stunned.
