On 10th October, Pakistan broke Ireland’s record of the highest score chased in the ODI World Cup. After Sri Lanka posted a target of 345, Pakistan chased it down with 10 balls to spare. Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique both scored centuries to ensure Pakistan won.
After winning, Rizwan posted on the social media site X, previously known as Twitter, that he dedicated that victory to the Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip. For the past few days, the country of Israel declared war against Palestinian militant group, Hamas.
The internet was immediately divided over Rizwan’s tweet. Many Indian fans were not happy with Rizwan making a political statement, as former Indian Captain MS Dhoni was not allowed to wear the Indian Army insignia on his gloves. Fans asked the ICC to take action against the 31-year-old. On the other side, he was praised for supporting the cause.
