Mohammed Shami has just come out of an amazing 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, where he picked up 24 wickets in 7 matches. Since November, he has not played a single World Cup match due to an ankle injury he picked up, undergoing surgery for it. 

Recently he went for an interview with CNN News 18, where he spoke about his World Cup, injuries and what lies ahead. During the interview, he was asked about the people who claimed it became harder for Muslims to live in India and his views.

He said there was religious harmony everywhere and said everyone should be able to enjoy following their religion. Earlier he was also attacked over not doing Sajdah, something he mentioned in the interview. 

In all religions, there will be 5 to 10 people who won't like the person from the opposite religion - I don't have any objection to it. If Mandir is being built, then what is the problem in saying Jai Shri Ram, say it 1000 times. If I want to say Allahu Akbar then I will say it, what difference it make?

Shami spoke about how he spent Holi and other Hindu festivals with his neighbors. He recounted how he and his family were invited for meals. The hosts ensured Shami and his family did not have even a speck of color on themselves. 

Mohammed Shami says he misses being a father 

Mohammed Shami has a daughter, Aaira, with his ex-wife Hasin Jahan. The two are separated after she accused him of domestic abuse and fixing. In the same interview, he spoke about how he misses his daughter, hoping he can soon meet her.

Shami said he hoped his daughter was still in good health and becomes successful in the future. As of now, Shami is still recovering from his ankle injury. There isn’t any confirmation on when he would come back, but he is most likely got ruled out of the Test series with England.
