Last year, right after the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Indian cricket fraternity’s focus shifted to the major change in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hardik Pandya, who was part of the Gujarat Titans (GT) for two seasons, joined Mumbai Indians (MI) again, and soon he was made the captain. Pandya became the first title-winning captain in the history of the IPL to get traded to another franchise. In 2022, Pandya led GT to the title in their maiden season.
If Pandya’s move did not turn heads, his becoming the new captain certainly did. Rohit Sharma, who captained MI to five IPL trophies, was pipped by Pandya who, according to some reports, laid out the captaincy condition in front of his old franchise.

His teammate Mohammed Shami, who played a crucial role for GT in both seasons, revealed what he thinks about the shocking trade. For him, it was just another thing that keeps happening in franchise cricket.
Kisi ke jaane se koi farak nahi padta See, it doesn't matter who is leaving. You have to see the team's balance. Hardik was there, he captained us well. He took us to the final in both editions and won us the title in 2022. But Gujarat hadn't signed Hardik for a lifetime. It's his decision. Shubman is made captain now, he will also gain experience. Some day, he might also leave. And it's a part of the game.Shami told News24
