India paceman Mohammed Shami made a statement during the first ODI series against Australia that he can play a huge role in the upcoming ODI World Cup. Shami picked up five wickets, helping India wrap up Australia’s innings to 276 runs on Friday (September 22) at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

At the post-match presentation, Shami explained that as an international cricketer, players do not talk about the heat as an excuse but that heat certainly plays a role during the matches. Several players found it discomforting playing under a scorching sun with high humidity in Mohali.

Shami was seen leaving the field after his first spell. It was difficult for the fast bowlers to bowl long spells under the hot and humid weather of Mohali. Despite extreme conditions, Shami did not fail to produce his best as he added another five-wicket haul to his ODI bowling stats.

We never talk much about this (extreme heat) with respect to tactics,” said Shami at the post-match presentation. “Players are also human. It also depends on how much effort you’re putting in,” he added.
