Mohammed Shami just had one of the best ODI World Cup campaigns any bowler could wish for. The pacer picked up 24 wickets in just seven matches, which included 5 five wicket hauls. He got his best bowling figures of 7/57 in the semi-finals against New Zealand. Despite such performances, his inclusion in the T20I team is not yet confirmed.
Shami has not featured in a T20I since India’s loss against England in the 2022 T20 World Cup. In the 23 T20Is the pacer has played, he has picked up 24 wickets with an average of 29.62. He currently plays for Gujarat Titans (GT), for whom he has been an integral part. In the past two seasons he has picked up 28 wickets.

If he does want to go to the United States of America and the West Indies to represent India, he must present his case in the 2024 IPL. The 33-year-old will be fighting for a spot with pacers like Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep SIngh, Mukesh Kumar, Mohammed Siraj and so many more. The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup will begin on 4th June.
Mohammed Shami visits orthopedic weeks before South Africa tour
When the BCCI announced the ODI and Test teams for the South Africa tour, Shami was not in the ODI team and a star was put next to his name in the Test team. The announcement explained that the star was kept as the pacer was subject to fitness.

Now reports have started to come out, stating that Shami has visited a sports orthopedic in Mumbai. It wasn’t an on field injury, but an ankle condition that has developed. He consulted the orthopedic in Mumbai and will return to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for treatment and rehab.
Shami was recently spotted in Mumbai attending Bengal Cricket Team’s Vijay Hazare match, where he was spotted limping. His younger brother, Mohammed Kaif, is playing for the Bengal team currently.
