India pacer Mohammed Siraj, best known for his swinging and seaming deliveries, proved the famous narrative that fast bowlers cannot be good fielders wrong during the first Test between India and West Indies. The pacer took a stunning catch just before lunch break on Day 1 to send Jermaine Blackwood packing.

As the West Indies batter tried to muscle a full delivery from Ravindra Jadeja over mid-off, Blackwood could not time his shot well enough. As a result, the ball hung in the air but was far from Siraj’s reach who was at mid-off. However, the India pacer did not let distance come in his way as Siraj ran and leaped a long way to his right to pluck the ball out of thin air.

Although he hit the turf hard upon landing and looked his pain, Siraj held onto the catch and the batter had to go back to the pavilion. Quite obviously, Siraj received a lot of praise from his teammates, especially Virat Kohli. The former India captain was seen lauding Siraj for not letting go of the ball despite taking a blow on his elbow.

This catch from Mohammed Siraj helped India tighten its grip on the West Indies batting lineup. After this wicket, India skipper Rohit Sharma continued to attack with spin and suffocate the opposition batters. As a result, West Indies lost another wicket as Joshua de Silva succumbed to Ravindra Jadeja‘s away going delivery. After being caught in two minds whether to play on the front foot or the back foot, Silva edged it right into the wicketkeeper’s hand.

With this dismissal, West Indies lost their fifth batter. Prior to this, R Ashwin struck twice to remove both West Indies openers- Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpual. After this, Shardul Thakur got Raymon Reifer caught behind followed by the two wickets from Jadeja.
