Morne Morkel wants to see Faf du Plessis in South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad because he has done well for RCB
Faf du Plessis and Morne Morkel
Former South Africa fast bowler Morne Morkel believes Cricket South Africa (CSA) should include Faf du Plessis in the team’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. T20 World Cup 2022 will take place in Australia from October to November this year.
The 37-year-old Faf du Plessis doesn’t have a playing contract with CSK but Morkel backed the former Proteas captain and opined that he has been in good form in the recentlt-concluded IPL 2022 while representing Royal Challengers Bangalore.
“You want all your big-name players to play and Faf is still playing well at the age of 37,” Morkel told ICC Digital at an event in Melbourne.
Du Plessis has scored 468 runs including three fifties at a strike rate of 127.52 in 16 matches while representing RCB. The CSA selectors didn’t include him in the playing XI for the World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

“I would like to see those experienced players in the side”- Morne Morkel
Morne Morkel said that Faf is still playing well and moving well in the field. He wants to see the experienced players in the side.
“He is still playing well, moving well in the field and he has done exceptionally well for RCB (in the IPL). I would like to see those experienced players in the side. That is up to them (Cricket South Africa) to work out, but I am definitely a big fan of it.”
He also expected fast-bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje and spinner Tabraiz Shamsi to do well in the team.
“I honestly believe they have an attack that is going to suit these conditions well. Kagiso Rabada is a world class performer, Anrich Nortje did very well at the IPL and Shamsi is a quality spinner.I do believe that it is a well-balanced squad and in T20 cricket these days the teams are so close,” Morkel said.
