MS Dhoni in IPL 2018 Final
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who were banned for two years (2016-17) from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) made a befitting comeback in 2018 as the MS Dhoni-led team won their third IPL title. The team that was termed as ‘Dad’s Army’ defied all odds and beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the summit clash to lift the title. It was an emotional moment for CSK as well as MS Dhoni.
The CSK captain who is known to show little emotion was filled with tears as Chennai won the trophy. While Dhoni controlled his emotions at the post-match presentation, the CSK captain could not control his tears at the dinner table. Former CSK cricketers, Imran Tahir and Harbhajan Singh have revealed that Dhoni cried after winning the trophy in 2018.
“There is a story which I want to share. Back in 2018, when CSK made a comeback to this league after a 2-year ban, there was a team dinner. I have heard the saying that ‘Men don’t cry’, but MS Dhoni cried on that night. He became emotional. I think no one knows about this. Right, Imran (Tahir)?” Harbhajan said on Star Sports.
“Yes, of course,” Tahir agreed. “Even I was there. It was a very emotional moment for him (MS Dhoni). Looking at him like that, I came to know how close this team is to his heart. He considers the team as his family. It was very emotional for all of us.”
Fifth title on the way?
While this was one of the finest title wins for CSK and MS Dhoni, a win in IPL 2023 will also be special for the Ranchi-born cricketer, considering it might be the swansong season. Although MS Dhoni has kept the suspense on his IPL retirement, fans and expert believe this very well might be the last season for him. Therefore, a title win will be the perfect ending for MS Dhoni.
CSK just need to cross a few hurdles to lay hands on that elusive trophy. While they need to beat GT in Qualifier 1, CSK will need to cross one final hurdle before MS Dhoni lifts his fifth IPL trophy.
