On August 15, 2020, the cricket fraternity received shocking news because former India captain MS Dhoni posted a video on his Instagram, declaring that he no longer would play international cricket. However, in the 2019 ODI World Cup in England, he played his last match of international cricket. It was the semi-final match against New Zealand when India faced a heartbreaking defeat that restricted their advancement to the final.
But not many had known back then that the match would also be Dhoni’s last international one. During an event in Bengaluru, Dhoni revealed that he had his plans ready on when to retire, but he waited for another year to officially make the announcement.

“It gets difficult to control your emotions when you have lost a close game. And inside, I had made my entire plan. To me, that was the last day I played cricket for India. I took retirement a year later, but the fact is that that day I had retired,” Dhoni said during the event (as quoted by the Times of India).
He then revealed what went on in mind his after knowing that he would no longer play for the nation. He said he was high on emotions because he would not do the thing he had been doing for 12-15 years. “And then there is no more chance of you representing the country,” he added.

MS Dhoni says he doesn’t want people to remember him as a good cricketer
It’s needless to repeat the impact MS Dhoni has made while captaining the Indian side. Under his leadership, India lifted the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.

He took India to the number one position in Test cricket and led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five IPL trophies. The success of the Indian, as well as the CSK team, is an example of what happens when a good captain leads competent players. But Dhoni doesn’t want to be remembered as a good cricketer.
“I have always said that ‘I want to be remembered as a good human being‘. If you want to be a good human being, it’s a process till you die,” the 42-year-old said during that event in Bengaluru.
