Mukesh Kumar made his Test debut for India in the 2nd Test against the West Indies at Trinidad. It was an emotional moment for the 29-year-old as he received his Test cap from the current best spinner in the world, Ravichandran Ashwin.
Kumar bagged his first Test wicket in the form of Windies’ number 3, Kirk McKenzie in the 7th over that he bowled in the match. He roared in delight after getting the wicket of the left-hander and was hugged by Virat Kohli for this achievement. Kohli celebrated Kumar’s first Test wicket by hugging him and patting him on his head while saying words of encouragement.
Most of the team gathered around Mukesh Kumar to celebrate his maiden Test wicket and the fact that a crucial partnership was finally broken. In an interview with Mohd Siraj on BCCI TV, Kumar shared how he felt when Virat Kohli came in to hug him after the dismissal. He said, “When I got the wicket, Virat bhaiya ran in and hugged me. I was in a different world. The man I have watched all these years on TV and looked up to is hugging you. It felt great.”

Mukesh Kumar opens up on his debut moment
Mukesh Kumar was added to the XI as a replacement for Shardul Thakur and was informed hours before, about his debut. On getting to know about his debut he said, “When I came to know that I will be playing, I was shocked and actually completely zoned out. Whether I play or not, I am always prepared, so I went to attend the team meeting, keeping in mind that I need to follow my process. But there was some gut feeling that I might play.”
Kumar also celebrated his debut by calling his mom and seeking her blessings. He shared a very emotional moment with her on call. With an impressive all-round show from the team, India were on top but with the final day being washed out, the Test was drawn. India however have taken the series 1-0.
