English media unleashed its creative side to hit back at the Australians for running out Jonny Bairstow on Day 5 of the second Ashes Test. As Alex Carey exhibited the great presence of mind to catch Bairstow short of his crease while the England batter casually wandered around, England fans were hurt.

Australian players were booed on and off the field. While the English crowd vented its frustration by hurling abuses at the opposition players, English media came out with interesting headlines to call out this act from Australia which they deemed was against the ‘spirit of the game’.

Although the dismissal was well within the rules of cricket, neither the English fans nor the media are ready to believe that Bairstow was casual in his approach. While England and their Bazball failed against the Aussies for the second time in this Ashes series, England’s media outlets focused more on the controversial runout part.

Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum not one bit pleased with Aussies

While their tactics continue to face scrutiny, England captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum openly called out Australia over Jonny Bairstow’s runout dismissal. Stokes, who was the protagonist of England’s win over New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup Final,  said that he would never want to win a game in such a way.

“If I was the fielding captain I would have put a lot more pressure on the umpires to ask them what their decision was around the over and around the spirit of the game and would I want to potentially win a game with something like that happening – and it would be no,” said Stokes at the post-match press conference.

Meanwhile, McCullum said he can’t imagine having a glass of beer with Aussies anytime soon. Speaking to BBC after the match, McCullum said he “can’t imagine…having a beer any time soon” with the Australian team.
