Nasser Hussain calls Jasprit Bumrah ‘best in all-format’ in the world; urges England not to panic

India thrashed England with Jasprit Bumrah’s thunderbolts to take a lead 1-0 in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Kia Oval in London on Thursday, July 12. The Three Lions were helpless in front of Bumrah’s swings, only to give India 110-run target.

Indian batsmen did the left work without sweating because Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan formed a century partnership between them and reached the target comfortably. After a T20I series lost against India, Jos Buttler’s England lost the first ODI but ex-cricketer Nasser Hussain believes there is nothing to panic as it will take Buttler and new coach Matthew Mott to develop their own team. He also believes, Eoin Morgan is a very tough act to follow.

“There has been a complete change in management and it will take time for captain Jos Buttler and new coach Matthew Mott to develop their own team and squad. Let’s be honest, Eoin Morgan is a very tough act to follow,” said Hussain.

Jasprit Bumrah scalped six wickets and conceded 19 runs with two maiden overs. He was simply unplayable and four English batsmen had gone for ducks, the likes of Jason Roy, Joe Root, Ben Stokes (in the over of Mohammed Shami), and Liam Livingstone.

“It was a walloping from the first ball to the last, a very one-sided game,” said Hussain.

“Bumrah would have to be the best all-format bowler in world cricket. Who would be the challengers? Maybe Trent Boult, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Jofra Archer when fit. But right now, he is the best there is.

“He has the unusual action and run-up so the ball does come at you like a thunderbolt. He also swings it both ways – but he does not just swing it, he is quick as well,” Hussain added.
