Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the youngsters who have impressed the Indian cricket fraternity with his batting prowess. Be it first-class cricket, Indian Premier League (IPL), or international cricket, Jaiswal continues to impress fans and is being touted as a future star of Indian cricket. Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting shares the same opinion.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain recently revealed that Ponting and Dinesh Karthik Jaiswal nodded in unison over Jaiswal’s game. Hussain asserted that scoring runs in first-class cricket and not just in the IPL is a good sign for Indian cricket.
“You speak to people who have seen him (Jaiswal) in the IPL. Again I’ve been working with Ricky (Ponting) and Dinesh (Karthik) came over, and you ask questions, and they all go, ‘yeah, this lad can play. He looks to have the technique and he looks to have the mindset,” Hussain said on The ICC review.
Yashasvi Jaiswal had a memorable Test debut
The Mumbai batter recently made his T20I debut against West Indies in the third match of the five-match T20I series. But he did not enjoy a memorable outing as he fell for just one run.
His knock was unlike his Test innings against West Indies. The 21-year-old slammed 16 boundaries and a six to play a stormy innings of 171 in the first Test. In the second Test, he scored 38 runs. And about his IPL scores, he collected 625 runs from 14 matches at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61.
It will be interesting to see whether Jaiswal gets the chance again for the fourth T20I after his flop show in the third match. He replaced Ishan Kishan in that match after the latter failed to make his bat talk in the first two matches. West Indies are currently leading the five-match series 2-1.
