Nepal cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane accused of raping a minor; investigation underway

Nepal team captain Sandeep Lamichhane alleged of raping a minor girl of 17 years old. Police have started an investigation after the girl filed a complaint at the Gaushala Metropolitan Ppolice Circle. The girl claimed that she was raped twice.
“Nepal police starts investigation over alleged rape complaint against Nepali national Cricket team Captain Sandeep Lamichhane, after a minor aged 17 lodged a case,” Nepal Police stated in a statement to news agency ANI on Wednesday.
The girl said she was a fan of Lamichhane and that she used to chat with him on WhatsApp and Snapchat and that it was the cricketer who proposed a meeting. Lamichhane asked her to go on a trip to Bhaktapur, and she agreed.
When the hostel closed at 8 pm, she was asked to spend the night with him at a hotel in Pingalasthan of Kathmandu. She alleged that the 22-year-old Lamichhane drugged her and raped her twice.

In a statement, the police said that the crime was committed on August 21. Bharat Bahadur Bahore, the chief of the Kathmandu district police range said that the police had registered the complaint on Wednesday.
“The police are sensitive to such serious incidents. We have made the supposed survivor undergo a health checkup and have launched an investigation,” said Rabindra Prasad Dhanuk, the Kathmandu Valley Police Office chief.
Leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane was appointed Nepal’s captain last year. He is currently in the West Indies to play the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He is yet to give any statement regarding the accusations.
He has played in the Indian Premier League in a couple of season in 2018 and 2019. He picked up 13 wickets in nine IPL matches. In various T20 leagues, he has claimed so far 193 wickets from 136 T20 games at an average of 17.76.
