Nepalese batter Dipendra Singh Airee blasted the fastest half-century in the history of cricket, off just nine balls. This happened during the match between Nepal and Mongolia at the ZJUT Cricket Field, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Doing so, Airee surpassed Yuvraj Singh’s record of fastest half-century in international cricket.
Mongolia won the toss and elected to field first. Nepal had a decent start but after the dismissal of the two openers, Kushal Malla slammed his century and remained unbeaten on 137 from 50 balls at a huge strike rate of 274, and his knock included eight boundaries and 12 maximums. He took just 34 balls to score the century, becoming the fastest batter to reach the three-figure mark in international cricket.
Rohit Paudel was the second high-scorer as he smacked 61 runs from 27 balls with two boundaries and six sixes, at a strike rate of 225.93. And when Airee walked onto the field to bat, he went on song on the word go.
Airee took just nine balls to hit his half-century. He batted at a monstrous strike rate of 520 to score an unbeaten 52 runs off just 10 balls, including eight maximums. It was a walk in the park for Nepalese batters to wreak havoc against Mongolia and soon Nepal reached a huge total of 314/3 in their 20 overs.
The bowlers wrapped up the match quickly when they bundled out Mongolia for a paltry 41 runs in 13.1 overs. Nepal also reached another milestone by winning the match by 273 runs- the highest margin of victory in T20I matches.
