Cricket has seen many documentaries, such as Amazon Prime’s “The Test,” Netflix’s “Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians,” and “Death of a Gentleman.” Now Netflix is planning to get another cricket documentary for fans to watch, based on the biggest rivalry in the sport. 

The new documentary is called “The Greatest Rivalry,” which will follow the rivalry shared by India and Pakistan. They announced it on their Instagram account, with the trailer showing shots from matches between the two.

The documentary will delve deep inside the history, the animosity between the two nations, and the cultural impact it has. According to Times Now, the documentary will have legends of the game like Wasim Akram, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and Inzamam-ul-Haq, along with many more. 

So far the release date has not been confirmed. This will be Netflix’s third documentary on cricket after “Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians” and “Caught Out”.

History of India-Pakistan rivalry

India and Pakistan first faced each other in 1952, five years after the two nations attained independence. They faced off in a five-match Test series, which India won 2-1. Since then, the two nations have played 58 Tests more, with India winning nine and Pakistan winning 11. Javed Miandad has scored the most runs, with 2,228 runs, while Kapil Dev took the most wickets with 99.

India and Pakistan first played an ODI against each other in 1978, and have since played 139 ODIs. Despite Pakistan winning the majority of the ties, with 79 wins, India are undefeated in the World Cup. Sachin Tendulkar has the most runs, with 2526, while Wasim Akram has 60 wickets, making him the highest wicket taker. 

India and Pakistan are two powerhouses of the T20I format. The two faced off each other in the inaugural T20 World Cup, which India won, but Pakistan won the next edition. The two sides have faced each other 12 times, out of which India have won nine of those games. Virat Kohli has scored the most runs with 488, while Hardik Pandya, Umar Gul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have each taken 11 wickets to be the highest wicket takers. 

The two nations had stopped touring each other after the November 26th attacks on Mumbai, but play against each other in multi-nation tournaments. The last time they faced each other was on 23rd October in the ODI World Cup, where India won by four wickets. They will now face each other in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, where they will play in New York.
