Netherlands’ cricket board shared a special message for India after the team qualified for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The Netherlands beat Scotland on Thursday (6 July) by four wickets to ensure qualification for the ODI World Cup, slated to be played in India later this year.
The Dutch put on a spirited performance throughout the ODI World Cup Qualifiers and beat two-time champions West Indies as well on their way to the qualification. Although the Netherlands did not have their best squad available, the Dutch gave opposition teams a run for their money.
After making it through to the Super Six, the Netherlands beat Oman and then Scotland to ensure they end in the top two of the points table after the end of the Super Six stage. Now, having finished in the top two, the Dutch will be against Sri Lanka in the WC Qualifiers Final. But that holds little significance over a ticket to the World Cup.
The Netherlands players were ecstatic as ever after the win over Scotland. Meanwhile, their cricket board shared a special message for India. “We can’t wait to be the guests of a country that says अतिथि देवो भव:” tweeted Cricket Netherlands post the win.
Fans celebrate Netherlands ODI World Cup qualification and hail Bas de Leede
Not just the fans in the Netherlands but from India and other parts of the world celebrated the Dutch qualifying for the quadrennial showpiece event. Everyone hailed the team for putting on emphatic performances despite the unavailability of their few frontline players.
Some Indian fans also saw the positive side of the Netherlands’ qualification. “Last time Netherlands played in the ODI World Cup, India won the tournament,” tweeted a user. Bas de Leede, who dished out a special performance (5/52, 123) also got heaps of praise from the fans.

Notably, the Netherlands will join Sri Lanka and eight already qualified teams for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The Dutch will be up against hosts India on 11 November.
