Kane Williamson is known for his calm, composed, and honest disposition until his image got ruined when he claimed a dropped catch on Tuesday [November 1] at the Gabba in Brisbane. English captain Jos Buttler was the batter when this happened, and he also went on to play a match-winning knock for his side.
The incident happened in the fifth over, bowled by Mitchell Santner. Buttler, who had scored just eight runs, sliced the ball which ended up in the clutch of Williamson.
Buttler walked off, while the umpires came together to discuss if the catch was legal or not. Williamson, though, gestured that he had fumbled but still was successful in catching the ball. But the replays showed other stuff. In reply, the ball hit the ground before Williamson clasped it to his chest. He later apologized to Buttler.
“You don’t want to be doing that, he’ll make you pay,” Williamson said after the match. “He played a beautiful knock in a big game. I thought I had squeezed it in my chest, it was a bit embarrassing in the end.”
Coming to the match, Buttler’s 73-run knock from 47 balls and Alex Hales‘ 52 off 40 balls helped England post 179/6 on the scoreboard. Glenn Phillips (62 off 36 balls) led the attack from the Kiwi’s side but failed to guide his team to win. England won the match by 20 runs and reached the second spot on the points table.
