Former India cricketer and current BJP MP Gautam Gambhir is a controversial figure. And now a video surfaced online which further damaged his reputation in the cricket fraternity. Though it invited brutal loathing, a section of netizens also defended him.
It was his action that caught the attention of the fans. The video seemed to be captured during India’s match against Pakistan at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
Gambhir was talking on his phone and walking from the field. There were chants of ‘Kohli Kohli‘ and what did Gambhir do? He showed his middle finger towards the fans. But later he also gave his explanation as to why he did that. He said that some Pakistani fans were uttering something against India that he couldn’t hear, hence the middle finger.
“What is shown on social media has no truth in it because people show whatever they want to show. The truth about the video that went viral is that if you raise anti-India slogans and speak about Kashmir then the person before you will obviously react and not smile and leave,” Gambhir told ANI.
Amid backlash, he took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared this post:
