An on-song Rohit Sharma sending balls toward the boundary is delightful to watch. After a duck in India’s previous World Cup match against Australia, Rohit compensated by slamming a century against Afghanistan on Wednesday (October 11) at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in New Delhi.
At one point during his breathtaking innings, Rohit, with a six, surpassed West Indies’ Chris Gayle to slam the most sixes in international cricket across all formats. Gayle has smacked 553 sixes from 551 innings. Rohit, who has smacked four sixes so far against Afghanistan, will be sending a few more outside the boundary.
The 36-year-old hammered his hundred off just 63 balls and is still batting at the moment. His opening partner Ishan Kishan, however, missed his half-century when Rashid Khan dismissed him in the 19th over. Kishan scored 47 runs in 47 balls.
India got a target of 273 runs and Rohit’s quick century is driving the Men in Blue toward the target at a faster rate. This match will be India’s second consecutive victory in the World Cup. In their first match, they had a nervy win over Australia. Three batters, including Rohit, got dismissed for ducks.
