Just a few months ago, Shreyas Iyer scored 500-plus runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup and a few days ago, he was dropped from the annual center contract list for 2023-24. He faced punishment, along with
Ishan Kishan for not listening to Jay Shah’s order to participate in the Ranji Trophy.
After the announcement of the list, reports came out that Iyer would play in the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. According to RevSportz, Iyer informed the management about his recurring back spasms after the conclusion of the second Test in Vizag against England.
As he underperformed in the first two Tests, he was dropped from the team. Amid controversy around Kishan for his reluctance to play in the Ranji Trophy, Iyer was asked to feature in the Ranji quarter-final. However, due to the pain, he informed Mumbai chief selector Raju Kulkarni that he would not be able to join the team.
The report by RevSportz further stated that Iyer did not report to the National Cricket Academy. As a consequence, the NCA head of sports science and medicine, Nitin Patel, wrote in an email to Kulkarni that Iyer was fit.
