Pakistan registered their second defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup after they got hammered by Australia on Friday (October 20) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. While chasing a huge target of 368 runs, Pakistan got bundled out for 305 runs and the Aussies won the match by 62 runs.
Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first. Two centuries, from David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, helped the Men in Yellow score 367/9 in their 50 overs. On the flat Bengaluru pitch, even Pakistani openers got off to a solid start, stitching 134 runs between them.
Abdullah Shafique scored 64 off 61, while Imam-ul-Haq scored a 71-ball 70 runs. After the dismissal of Shafique, Babar Azam entered but his stay did not last for a long time. However, Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel were slowly taking Pakistan to the target.
When Aussie skipper Pat Cummins dismissed Saud Shakeel, it was Adam Zampa’s turn to wreak havoc and ensure Australia the victory they needed the most. He sent back Iftikhar Ahmed in the 39th over and got rid of the dangerous Rizwan for 46 off 40 balls in the 42nd over.
After Rizwan’s dismissal, Zampa sent Mohamad Nawaz to packing as well. The Aussie spinner completed his four-wicket haul for 53 runs in his 10 overs. Later, Cummins and Josh Hazlewood quickly got rid of the left wickets to guide Australia to a 62-run win.
Netizens create memes to celebrate Australia’s win and make fun of Pakistan
Pakistan faced their first defeat against India in their previous match. As they lost back-to-back matches, netizens, mostly Indian fans, started creating memes to make fun of Babar Azam and his men.
