Pakistan chased 345 runs against Sri Lanka, which is also the highest-ever run chase in the history of the ODI World Cup on Tuesday (October 10) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Courtesy of Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique, Pakistan stunned those who believed it was beyond them to drive past the target.
When Sri Lanka batted first, two batters, Kusal Mendis (122 off 77) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (108 off 89) scored their respective centuries, helping Sri Lanka post 344/9 in 50 overs. The target was huge enough to make fans think Pakistan would easily lose the match.
But Rizwan and Shafique turned the table. In his first-ever World Cup appearance, he played a memorable knock, smacking his century in style and departed off Matheesha Pathirana‘s delivery. Rizwan again came in clutch and remained unbeaten at 131 off 121 balls.
Also for the first time, four centuries were scored in a single match. This match will remembered for a long time for different reasons.
Fans heap praise on Pakistan for their breathtaking performance
Overjoyed Pakistani fans are saying Babar Azam and his men are unpredictable as they defended 287 against the Netherlands and chased down the 345-run target against Sri Lanka.
