England’s Test side is experiencing a massive heartbreak as despite being on the cusp of a stunning finish, the rain ended up ruining everything at Old Trafford Cricket Stadium in Manchester on Sunday (July 23). Pat Cummins and Co. were able to draw the fourth Ashes series as a consequence of which, they retained the trophy. They were leading the five-match series by 2-1.
The game on the fifth day did not start at all. The Aussies, needless to say, were desiring this.
If the game had started, Aussie batters Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green would have opened Day 5 from the score of 214/5 (they were trailing by 61 runs). It’s safe to say Aussie batters would have tried to draw the series with a long batting session on Day 5 if the rain didn’t halt the game.

Check how Twitter reacted to Australia retaining the Ashes urn
One can guess that fans on Twitter particularly lambasted Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum for that declaration in the first Test at Edgbaston where Australia won the match by two wickets. Their Bazball approach to cricket again received flak from the fans. Some fans mocked England for failing to retain the Ashes urn even on home soil.
Here are their reactions:
Talking about the match, England won the toss and opted to field first. Australia, with two half-centuries and a couple of 30-plus scores from other batters. England played aggressively with Zak Crawley scoring 189 runs off 182 balls, and other batters also added quick runs on the scoreboard, putting on 592 runs.
Australia was on the brink of a defeat when Marnus Labuschagne held his nerves to slam his century, eventually helping Australia a chance to draw the match. Later, the rain did the rest of the work. The fifth Ashes Test will be played at The Oval on July 27.
