Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli added another batting record to his name by becoming the first batter in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to reach 7000 runs in his 233rd match. He achieved this sensational record during RCB’s match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday (May 6) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan stands second on the list with 6536 runs in 213 matches. DC skipper David Warner features third on the list with 6189 runs in 171 matches, while Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma stands in fourth position with 6063 runs from 237 matches.

The 34-year-old also stands atop with the most runs scored in a single IPL season. He aggregated a whopping 973 runs in 16 matches, including four hundred in 2016, helping his team reach the finals.

Virat Kohli also slammed his 50th 50 in this match. However, it was a slow innings as he reached his half-century in 46 balls.

He departed when Mukesh Kumar delivered a fullish ball which Kohli flicked away but Khaleel Ahmed grabbed it. The Delhi-born batter made 55 runs from 46 balls with five boundaries.

Meanwhile, RCB reached 181/14 in their 20 overs. Apart from Kohli, RCB captain Faf du Plessis contributed 45 runs from 32 balls with five boundaries and a six. Mahipal Lomror played an impact innings, remaining unbeaten on 54 off 29 with six boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 186.21.
