Pakistan and Sri Lanka are locking horns in the ICC ODI World Cup on Tuesday (October 10). Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis, who has been enjoying good form in this World Cup, played a thunderous knock against Babar Azam and company at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka chose to bat first. And though opener Kusal Perera was dismissed for a duck off Hasan Ali, Pathum Nissanka and Mendis stayed glued to the crease till the departure of the former off Shadab Khan’s delivery. Nissanka scored 51 runs off 61 balls.
A few overs later, Mendis blasted his century, off just 65 balls. This made him the fastest Sri Lankan to smash a ton in ODI World Cups.
Mendis departed after a remarkable 77-ball 122 runs at a strike rate of 158.44, which also included 14 boundaries and six maximums. Before he could make more mockery of Pakistani bowlers, Hasan Ali, in the 29th over, got rid of him with a catch by Imam-Ul-Haq.
