Did Glenn Maxwell lose his form? Not at all. After a series of not-so-impressive performances, the Aussie all-rounder finally played a match to remember, for he smacked the fastest century in the ODI World Cup on Wednesday (October 25). The Netherlands, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, had no answer in front of Maxwell’s carnage.

The batting-friendly Delhi pitch prompted the Aussies to bat first after winning the toss. The Netherlands had a good start with the ball, getting an early breakthrough by dismissing Mitchell Marsh.

But David Warner’s onslaught and Steve Smith‘s 71 shifted the momentum and after Smith’s dismissal, Marnus Labuschagne led the attack. Warner went to score his century, and from the scoreboard, it looked like the Aussies would give a strong target.

Then Maxwell fired on all cylinders later and in a blink of an eye, he was taking his team towards 400. From just 40 balls, he scored his century becoming the fastest batter to reach the three-figure mark in the history of the ODI World Cup. Following his ton, he celebrated it by dedicating it to his newborn baby.

The 35-year-old batted at a strike rate of 240.91, scoring 106 runs from 44 balls. His knock also had nine boundaries and eight sixes.
