“A win to savour”- Netizens in disbelief as Afghanistan humble defending champions England with all-round effort in World Cup
If the opponents are England, the target of 285 looks small, and one would expect an easy victory for the defending champions. The opposite happened when England started losing quick wickets.

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Afghanistan bowlers ruled. Who would have thought that instead of witnessing a one-sided affair, thinking England would wreak havoc in both departments, they would see Afghanistan giving some harsh treatment to the defending champions on Sunday (October 15).
After winning the toss, English skipper Jos Buttler decided to bowl first. Afghanistan took the English bowlers to cleaners on the word go courtesy of openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran who stitched 114 runs between them.
And as Afghanistan faced a collapse after Zadran’s wicket, Gurbaz played a brilliant innings, scoring 80 runs from 57 balls. The second highest run-scorer was Ikram Alikhil who smashed his fifty (58 off 66). Some 20-plus runs from Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman took Afghanistan to 284 in 49.5 overs.

The top order contributed nothing much, except for Dawid Malan’s 32 off 39. World-class batters like Joe Root, Jos Buttler, and Liam Livingstone were sent to packing moment after they came to bat. England’s hopes were on Harry Brook who scored a quick 61-ball 66 runs but before he could take his side to victory, Mujeeb trapped him. Later, despite cameos from lower-order batters England couldn’t recover and lost the match by 69 runs.
