During a match in the 2023 Caribbeans Premier League (CPL), umpire Nigel Duguid used the iconic gesture of WWE wrestler John Cena. The match was a Qualifier 1 between Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) and Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

The incident happened when GAW spinner Imran Tahir delivered to Mark Deyal on the first ball of the fifth over. Tahir appealed for an LBW as the ball hit the front pad.

The umpire, however, could not see the ball as Tahir blocked his view during his follow-through. And when Tahir appealed, the umpire produced John Cena’s ‘You can’t see me’ gesture. Tahir looked confused but the umpire soon clarified what he meant.

As the umpire said he did not see clearly, Tahir went upstairs for the third umpire’s review. The third umpire, Leslie Reifer, found that the ball would have hit the area between the leg and middle stump, which means Dayal had to depart after his 15 off 11 balls.
