The Ashes took an unexpected turn when the fourth Test ended up in a draw, only to help Australia retain the Ashes urn as they were leading the five-match Test series by 2-1. England were in a comfortable position, needing five wickets to win the Test at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. But rain washed away that dream. Australia retaining the Ashes urn did not go down with English fans, including TV broadcaster Piers Morgan.

Morgan took to Twitter to share a series of tweets, expressing his frustration and lambasting “less deserved” Australia for lifting the Ashes urn. He cited the example of the Jonny Bairstow incident where the wicketkeeper batter was given out in a controversial fashion, albeit, it was legal dismissal from Aussie keeper Alex Carey. From the beginning of the Ashes Test, Morgan kept a close eye on the game and continued to post his opinions on Twitter.

FFS. Has there ever been a less deserved retention of the Ashes?” Morgan wrote on Twitter. “From the Bairstow debacle to this rain-soaked fiasco, it’s an absolute farce that smirking Australia have ended up with the urn still in their hands.” In another tweet, he slammed Aussie skipper Pat Cummins by sharing a video of him speaking to the media after retaining the Ashes.

No doubt, the Australian fans flooded the comment sections of Piers Morgan’s tweets, criticizing him and giving him a reality check that England were not able to win or retain the Ashes since 2015. Some fans dug out a tweet Morgan posted during the 2013 Ashes series, celebrating how rain saved England from the brink of defeat.

Talking about the fourth Ashes Test, Australia posted 317 in the first innings and England’s Bazball batting took them to 592, thanks to Zak Crawley‘s 189 off 182 balls. Australia were succumbing to an embarrassing defeat when Marnus Labuschagne saved his team with a century. On the fifth day, rain played the spoilsport and favored the Aussie side.
