India suffered a six-run loss to Bangladesh in their last Super Four match of the 2023 Asia Cup at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. While chasing 266, India could reach 259 before getting bundled out to suffer a defeat for the first time in this edition’s continental tournament.
After winning the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first. Several main players were rested for the match, the likes of Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya were not part of the game.
Bangladesh, with captain Shakib Al Hasan‘s 80 off 85, Towhid Hridoy’s 54 off 81, and Nasum Ahmed’s 44 off 45, posted 265/8 in 50 overs. India’s Shardul Thakur scalped the most wickets by dismissing three batters.
India did not get the desired start as Rohit Sharma was sent to packing for a silver duck. And then one by one, Indian batters started heading toward the dressing room. Shubman Gill, however, stayed glued to the crease and slammed his fifth ODI century before departing after scoring 121 runs from 133 balls. After him, Axar Patel continued attacking the Bangladeshi bowlers. His dismissal in the penultimate delivery turned the table and after dismissing the last batter, Bangladesh clinched the victory by six runs.

Rohit Sharma and Co. did not taste defeat in all the matches they have played and they had the chance to reach the final without any loss. But this defeat might alert them to do their best in the final.
India have already reached the final when they defeated Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, defeated Pakistan in a nail-biting encounter to secure themselves a spot in the summit clash.
