According to a report published in a British daily ‘The Telegraph’, Stokes is likely to take a U-turn from ODI retirement for the upcoming ODI World Cup, slated to take place in India in October-November. 

“Ben Stokes is prepared to make a sensational U-Turn and reverse his one-day international retirement to help England’s World Cup defence in India this year, even if it means missing out on next season’s Indian Premier League,” a paragraph on The Telegraph reads. The report further added Stokes also indicated the same to ECB and is ready to get picked in the squad under white-ball skipper Jos Buttler.

This report came as a huge shock for the cricket fraternity because Stokes has time and again made it pretty clear that he won’t reverse his decision. The 32-year-old announced his decision in July last year that he will hang up his boots in ODI cricket as he is against the crammed-up cricketing schedule.

His retirement news also came as a massive shock since he is one of England’s most important assets. In the last two World Cup (2019 ODI World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup) that England have won, Stokes has played clutch innings in the final, leading the team to their title glory.
