Many cricketers in the world have stated that they would love to participate in the Indian Premier League. The cash-rich league has seen talent from all over the world and many build their name in the competition as well.

Despite the opportunity to make a name in the tournament, many players have pulled out. In the ongoing 2024 IPL, there have been six players who pulled themselves out of the IPL, but five of them are English players.

Two of them, Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson, left IPL due to the English and Wales Cricket Board wanting to reduce their workload. Jason Roy cited personal reasons and withdrew his name. Harry Brook, who missed the Test series with India, pulled out of the IPL after his grandmother’s death. He said he needed a mental health break and hence didn’t join Delhi Capitals.

Now another English player has withdrawn from the IPL. David Willey, who played for RCB in the previous season, was bought by Lucknow SuperGiants for ₹2 crore. He pulled out of the IPL on 30th March, but his team has gotten a replacement. Matt Henry will be playing in Willey’s place.

Fans bash English stars for pulling out

When the news of David Willey withdrawing out of the IPL came out, many fans slammed him and the other English players. They called for the players to be banned by the IPL and for the BCCI to take action against them.

Most teams got the replacements for their players that pulled out. So far, there have been 10 matches in the IPL. Chennai Super Kings are at the top, with four points, but are tied with Kolkata Knight Riders who are behind due to the Net Run Rate.
