MS Dhoni and Co. played their fourth match of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday (April 12) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. But the home team, to the distress of the Chepauk fans, were defeated by three runs while chasing 175.
At first, Sandeep Sharma became the star for RR as he didn’t let Ruturaj Gaikwad play another scintillating knock and subsequently stitch a stand with Devon Conway. Sandeep dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad in the third over. The young batter departed after scoring eight runs from 10 balls.
After him, Ajinkya Rahane entered and quickly contributed 31 runs from 19 balls with two fours and a six. Before he could play another blazing knock, local boy Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him in the 10th over. Devon Conway slammed a half-century and departed after scoring 50 off 38 with six boundaries when Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed him in the 15th over.

A total of 19 runs were conceded in the penultimate over courtesy of Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni. In a nick of time, they stitched a 50-run stand between them. In the final over the home, the team needed 21 runs from six balls and Sandeep Sharma was handed the ball to defend the runs.
Under pressure Sandeep Sharma against MS Dhoni, bowled two wide balls, followed by a dot ball. Dhoni smashed a six off the next ball, leaving CSK with 13 runs to score from four balls. This match was certainly an edge-of-the-seat thriller.
To add more to it, ‘Vintage Dhoni’ smashed another six. Two runs were scored off the next two balls, and five runs were then needed off the last ball and the strike was with Dhoni. But a yorker from Sandeep broke the hearts of the Chepauk crowd. Two runs were scored and RR pulled off an incredible victory at the Chepauk after 15 years, by three runs.
