In the 2nd match of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, Asian giants Pakistan faced the only association team participating in the World Cup, Netherlands. Pakistan went into the match as favorites, with many expecting captain Babar Azam would lead his team to victory. Unfortunately, Pakistan had a very shaky start. 

In the fourth over, Logan van Beek dismissed opener Fakhar Zaman cheaply. Barely 5 overs later, Babar Azam pulled the ball into the hands of Saqib Zulfiqur, who was fielding at midwicket. Babar had to depart with only 5 runs on board despite batting for 18 balls.

Pacer Paul van Meekeren later dismissed opener Imam-ul-Haq as well, which got Pakistan in a very tough spot. In 11 overs, Pakistan were 53-3 with the Dutch bowlers troubling batsman Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel. With only 7 wickets in hand and 39 overs left, Pakistan are in threat. With three wickets in the powerplay, the Netherlands Cricket Team were on the driving seat.

Babar Azam once again bears the brunt of fans 

After a poor 2023 Asia Cup, Babar Azam went into the competition with high expectations from fans. Many expected him to lead from the front and put up consistent performances for his team. Unfortunately he started his tournament poorly by only scoring only 5 runs in the first match.

He has been trolled by fans for his poor starts, with many commenting how he couldn’t statpad against an Associate nation. One commented how it was funny how the Karnataka State Cricket Team beat Netherlands with ease, but it was tough for Babar Azam and co. Many even joked how eating a lot of Hyderabadi Biryani has caused this poor performace.

Some even questioned Pakistani fans how they could compare Babar Azam with Indian batters like Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill. They started trolling him again for yet another poor outing.
