India are playing against Pakistan in the 2023 Asia Cup on Saturday (September 2) at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. During the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma revealed that the management had gone for Jasprit Bumrah, and Shardul Thakur, which means they have dropped Mohammed Shami.
India have won the toss and decided to bat first. This decision from Rohit Sharma amused the fans because Thakur does not have as much experience as Shami on the international stage.
Shami has even produced exceptional bowling performances in the previous matches that he has played for India as well as in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Thakur, on the other hand, could be seen most of the time during matches minus most of the senior players.
However, considering that Thakur can also bat, the management might have taken this decision to have depth in the batting order. But despite that, Indian fans on X (formerly Twitter) expressed their disappointment over not giving Shami the opportunity to play in the match against Pakistan. Apart from Bumrah and Thakur, Mohammed Siraj will also be seen in action with Hardik Pandya completing India’s pace department.
