New Zealand pacer Trent Boult, who has been an integral part of the team at two ODI World Cups in 2015 and 2019 is all set to make a comeback for the 2023 ODI World Cup after missing 50-over cricket for over a year. Trent Boult did not take up the central contract offered by the New Zealand cricket board and preferred to play in leagues across the globe.
However, as New Zealand look to complete the final hurdle after finishing as runner-ups in two consecutive editions, Trent Boult is all set to return to ODI cricket. The left-arm pacer has been included in New Zealand’s 15-man squad for a four-match series against England in September in the leadup to the World Cup.
Kyle Jamieson, who recently underwent a back surgery is also making a comeback. “We’re delighted to include Kyle in this squad alongside his earlier selection for the T20 squads to play the UAE and England,” coach Gary Stead said in a media release. He’s been working extremely hard on his rehabilitation following back surgery and we’re looking forward to seeing him back playing on the international stage.
“It’s also great to welcome Trent back into our ODI unit as he begins his preparation towards the World Cup in India,” Gary Stead said about Boult.
Trent Boult to make comeback against England

Trent Boult last played an ODI way back in September 2022 when the Kiwis lost 0-3 to their Trans Tasman rivals, Australia in Cairns. Although the pacer has been absent from the national setup, Boult is playing regular cricket in leagues across the globe. However, switching to 50 over cricket can be hectic for Boult.
The pacer will return to action through the four-match series against defending champions England. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson is still in recovery and will travel with the team but won’t take the field. The New Zealand captain is expected to be fit in time for the quadrennial showpiece event.
