“What a win!”- No. 10 Mumbai defeat table topper Gujarat after heroic last over by Daniel Sams

Gujarat openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill’s half-century might have made fans predict that Mumbai would lose this match also every easily. But MI bowlers and fielders had different things on their minds. In what was a nail-biting last over, Rohit Sharma’s MI slammed Hardik Pandya’s GT by 5 runs on Friday, May 6 at the Brabourne Stadium.
The opening batsman Wriddhiman Saha scored 55 in 40 deliveries while smacking 6 fours and 2 sixes before Murugan Ashwin trapped him with his length ball. Saha looked to sweep but got the top edge and the ball skyed towards the deep square leg fielder. Danial Sams there charged forward to his left with a dive and caught it.
Other opener Shubman Gill had put a stand-in of 106 runs with Saha. He smashed 6 fours and 2 sixes to score 52 runs in 36 balls. The same bowler Murugan Ashwin dismissed him with a full and flighted ball. Gill attempted to hit it as he came down the track and went downtown but hit it off the tow end. For a while the ball stayed in the air before falling straight onto the hands of Kiron Pollard at the long on.
Hardik Pandya walked back after a run-out by Ishan Kishan after scoring 24 in 14 balls with 4 fours. David Miller scored 19 runs in 14 balls while Sai Sudharshan played a knock of 14 in 11 balls.

The penultimate over was no less than a thriller. Gujarat Titans needed 9 runs and David Miller was on the crease. Bowling under-pressure, Daniel Sams was to be given the whole credit for Mumbai’s second victory. Daniel Sams kept Miller on hold with his slower balls.
And at last, in the last ball of the innings, Gujarat needed six runs and Sams then bowled a low full toss which was a slower ball once again. Miller tried to swing his bat but missed. Sams then punched in the air and sighed in relief as Mumbai Indians defeated the table topper Gujarat Titans.
It was Gujarat’s third defeat in the season. First one came from Sunrisers Hyderabad, second came from Punjab Kings. Mumbai Indians now have won three games in their 10 matches.
