Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni

Former India captain Virat Kohli’s rough phase in the past couple of months has finally ended but Kohli revealed how when he stepped down from Test captaincy, no one messaged him except for former India captain MS Dhoni.

“I’ll tell you one thing. When I quit Test captaincy, only one person who I played with messaged me. That is MS Dhoni. A lot of people have my number. People give suggestions on TV. People have a lot to say. But all those who had my number didn’t message,” Kohli made the revelation after the match against Pakistan here on Sunday.

“When you have respect for someone and that’s genuine, then it looks like that because there is a sense of security on both sides. Neither does he need anything from me nor do I need anything from him. I was never insecure of him neither was he,” Kohli added.

Kohli was the high-scorer (60 runs off 44 balls) for India against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage although the match ended up in the latter’s favour. In that same match, he surpassed captain Rohit Sharma to score most number of fifties (32) in T20Is. So far, Kohli stants top in the list of high-scorers in Asia Cup 2022.

Kohli then continued to add how his living with honesty helps him see through things and he will keep playing the way he plays even though these things do bother him.

“Somehow, I live my life with honesty and I can see through these things. I won’t say these things don’t bother me, but you see the truth. When you play for this long with honesty, the almighty rewards you. As long as I am worthy of playing, I’ll play this way,” Kohli said.

The cricket pundits, former cricketers, currents cricketers have tons of opinions and suggestions on media about the players. Kohli believes those who have suggestions for him should talk to him one-on-one because the advice for him in front of the world has no value. If someone genuinely wants to help him, he should talk to him in person, according to him.

“I will only say one thing. If I want to say something about anyone, I will say it individually. If you really want to help. If you give those suggestions in front of the world, that has no value. If that is supposed to help me, you should talk one-on-one. If he genuinely wants me to do well,” he added.
