“Killer Miller”, very well said’-David Miller, Hardik Pandya power Gujarat to victory vs Rajasthan; become 1st team to reach final

David Miller and Hardik Pandya

When it looked Rajasthan had got the upper hand over Gujarat Titans, the pair of Hardik Pandya and David Miller steered Gujarat to victory by 7 wickets on Tuesday, May 24 at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.

Gujarat had won the toss and opted to bowl first. With Jos Buttler’s 89 runs off 56 balls and Sanju Samson’s quick but effective and crucial 47 runs off 26 balls, Rajasthan posted 188/6 on the scoreboard.

Gujarat Titans’ openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill came out to bat and the former fell prey to Trent Boult’s length ball on the 2nd ball of the first over and walked back for a duck.

But his opening partner Shubman Gill had given Gujarat a much needed help. He scored 35 runs in 21 balls with 5 fours and one six but in the 8th over, from Ravichandran Ashwin’s ball, Gill worked with gentle hands towards mid-wicket and scampered back for the second run but Matthew Wade takes a start but stopped. Shimron Hetmyer attacked the ball near the circle and fired a throw at the bowler’s end. Devdutt Padikkal collected the ball and broke the stumps.

Matthew Wade scored 35 runs off 30 balls with 6 fours. A ball from Obed McCoy sent him back because on his ball, Wade could connect it well but it wasn’t enough to make it clear the fence. McCoy expected it to cross the boundary but to his surprise, Jos Buttler jumped and caught it over his head. GT were at 85/3 at that time.

But the next partnership between Hardik Pandya and David Miller turned the table.

When Gujarat needed Hardik Pandya, and David Miller, both of them stayed at the crease to keep the scorecard moving. He did the same in this match. His partnership with David Miller was the reason behind Gujarat’s victory.

Hardik Pandya scored 40 runs in 27 balls with 5 fours while David Miller scored 69 runs in 38 balls with 3 fours and 5 massiv sixes. The last three sixes he had hit when in the last over, GT needed 16 runs in 6 balls. By smashing 6 sixes in a row off Prasidh Krishna’s over, David Miller proved why he is called the ‘Killer Miller”. Teams weren’t much interested in Miller but he went on to score 400+ runs and became the hero of GT to score runs in crucial moment.

Notably, Gujarat Titans become the first team to reach the finals whereas Rajasthan will still get a chance to play the loser of Qualifier 2 at the eliminators.
