Not Ireland series, Jasprit Bumrah to make comeback through ASIA CUP; KL Rahul might also return
There were talks of bringing Bumrah back for the Ireland T20I series. However, the thought process has changed and the 29-year-old might make his comeback through the Asia Cup in August-September.

India’s pacer spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been out of cricketing action for several months now. Ever since suffering a back injury last year, Bumrah has failed to regain full fitness. Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tried to bring Bumrah back for the 2022 T20 World Cup, it only worsened the pacer’s condition and Bumrah eventually had to undergo surgery.
Nevertheless, the pacer is showing encouraging signs while recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), and if all goes well, Jasprit Bumrah might be back for the 2023 Asia Cup and most importantly the 2023 ODI World Cup. It is reported that Bumrah is bowling seven overs a day at the NCA and is facing no problems at all.
There were talks of bringing Bumrah back for the Ireland T20I series. However, the thought process has changed and the 29-year-old might make his comeback through the Asia Cup in August-September. The Indian Express has reported that Bumrah is likely to make a comeback through the continental showpiece event with an eye on getting the pacer ready for the World Cup.
“Having resumed bowling earlier this month, it is understood that the pacer hasn’t complained of any discomfort and there is a school of thought whether to send him to Ireland with a second-string squad. But given the long travel and the quick turnaround, taking him to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup is seen as a safe option,” the Indian Express reported.

KL Rahul also recovering fast enough to be back for Asia Cup with Jasprit Bumrah
India’s wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul who suffered an injury to his right thigh during IPL 2023 is also recovering quickly and might make a comeback with Jasprit Bumrah. The 31-year-old has proved his mettle in ODIs batting at No.5 and with India looking to lift the trophy after 12 years, Rahul’s availability becomes crucial.
The aforementioned report has claimed that Rahul will be starting his skill-based training in mid-July and might even be available for the Ireland T20Is. However, just like Bumrah, the wicketkeeper batter is also being preserved for the World Cup.
