“Not much of a wicket-taker” Former Windies legend slams Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan and Lara
Rashid Khan is one of the best T20 bowlers that the game has to offer. The Afghan strike bowler has been a nightmare for the batsmen in this short format of the game. What makes him deadlier is his ability to take wickets at regular intervals and restricting the run rate at any point of the game. On Saturday Rashid picked up his hundredth wicket in the Indian premier league and he was the joint third fastest player to do so. He achieved this feat in only 83 games.
Ashish Nehra and Amit Mishra share the record with him. Rashid Khan is undoubtedly a very crucial asset for any team. Considering this fact Sunrisers Hyderabad did not retain him before the season and it left fans shocked by the decision of the management. Rashid played for Hyderabad from 2017 to 2021 and was a catalyst to SRH’s success in this period.

Opposition teams chose to defend Rashid says Lara

He joined Gujarat Titans ahead of the mega auctions for a staggering 15 crores. SRH batting coach and West Indies legend Brian Lara says Washington Sundar and Jagadeesha Suchith have replaced Rashid Khan well and says his team is doing pretty well even without the spinner.
“I have a great respect for Rashid Khan but I believe we have the right combination. Rashid Khan was someone who opposition teams decided to defend against, he was not much of a wicket-taker,” Lara told Star Sports post SRH’s victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.
“Yes (economy of) 5.5-6 runs per over is great but I think when you have a guy like Washington Sundar spinning the ball into the left-handers in the first six overs, He is an asset. Suchith has come in as his replacement due to injury and he is an asset as well,” he added.
Sun rises are having a great season and they have won five of their seven matches and are looking to reach the qualifiers comfortably. Their bowling attack mainly consists of pacers like Umran Malik, but Lara says Shreyas Gopal can be an important addition during the final stage of the tournament. They would have won all seven games if the leg spinner would have been a part of the team, admitted Lara.
” We have Shreyas Gopal, though he hasn’t had a game so far. He is also someone who has a hat-trick in the IPL. I still think we have a lot in the reserves to show the IPL and I am not too worried. All respect to Rashid Khan, if he was a member of this team, I think we might have been 7 out of 7, I don’t know,” Lara added.
