The Men in Blue doesn’t have the services of a seam bowler who can bat in overseas matches, feels former England captain Nasser Hussain. Hussain opined that India need someone like Ben Stokes, Cameron Green, and Mitchell Marsh to improve India’s Test record outside India.

Hussain first praised India for having a brilliant balance at home but away from home, as per Hussain, India need someone who can bowl 10 to 15 overs. According to Hussain, players like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Rohit Sharma are formidable at home but in overseas matches, India must include a seam-bowling all-rounder like Hardik Pandya.

A cricketer India need at the moment is a (Ben) Stokes-type cricketer, a Cameron Green-type cricketer, a Mitchell Marsh-type cricketer, a batter at No.6 or No.7, away from home,” Hussain said (via ICC).

India recently lost the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia by 209 runs at The Oval. This was their second defeat in WTC as they previously lost the final to New Zealand in 2021.

The flamboyant all-rounder Hardik Pandya hasn’t featured in red-ball cricket since he recovered from back surgery. He last played a Test match back against England, back in 2018.

The 29-year-old has played just 11 Test matches since making his debut in 2017, scoring 532 runs, with the highest being a 108-run knock. He has batted at an average of 31.29.

Pandya has not yet hinted that he wants to play Test cricket. He did not even play first-class cricket since December 2018.

He now focuses on the white-ball format and in all possibilities, he will take the leadership role from current India captain Rohit Sharma in the T20Is in the near future. When Rohit is rested, Pandya is made the stand-in skipper. The reason for his not playing Test cricket might be his back issue.
