Steve Smith got the chance to share the stage with Serbia’s Novak Djokovic during a special event titled ‘A Night with Novak and Friends’ at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne ahead of the 2024 Australian Open. The fans were treated to a friendly clash between the duo as Djokovic tried his hands at various sports and entertained them.
During the match, Djokovic served softly to Smith. The Aussie batter returned the serve, leaving the Serbian stunned as he clapped and bowed down.
And though Smith displayed his tennis skills that left the 24-time Grand Slam champion in awe, the latter couldn’t do the same with the cricket bat. After failing to hit the ball, Djokovic switched the bat with a racquet and successfully hit the ball, which flew into the crowd.
The friendly face-off between the two athletes left cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar impressed as he took to X (formerly Twitter) to react to the now-viral video. Djokovic was quick to react to the former Indian cricketer by responding with folded emoticons.
David Warner sledges Steve Smith to distract him during a BBL match
David Warner retired from Tests and ODIs recently but will play the T20Is. Right after his farewell Test match against Pakistan, Warner played in the Big Bash League (BBL) for the Sydney Thunder in Sydney.
Ahead of Thunder’s first match against Sydney Sixers, Warner arrived at the SCG in a helicopter, leaving cricket fans in absolute awe. And during the match, when the Sixers were asked to bat first, Steve Smith, who was opening the match, was at the receiving end of Warner’s sledging.
Warner’s tactics paid off as Smith got out for a duck on the first ball with Daniel Sams taking the catch. His duck did not affect the match much as the Sixers registered their fifth victory over the Thunder on the trot.
