Nurul Hasan accuses Virat Kohli of ‘fake fielding’ as video goes viral
Bangladesh wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan has accused Virat Kohli of ‘fake fielding’ following Bangladesh’s 5-run defeat to India on Wednesday (November 2) at the T20 World Cup. At the post-match press conference, Nurul pointed out the incident to spark a massive controversy.
The incident happened in the seventh over of Bangladesh‘s batting when Liton Das pushed Axar Patel’s delivery for a two. Arshdeep Singh, fielding at deep-off side, threw the ball towards the non-striker’s end. However, standing at point, Kohli gestured to have the ball and actioned a throw towards wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik as the ball passed him.
Fortunately for India, the on-field umpire didn’t notice the action and the game continued without any interruption. Speaking to reporters, Nurul spoke about the effects of rain before saying that his side should have been awarded five runs due to Kohli’s attempt to deceive the batter.
He said: “We all saw that it was a wet ground. Eventually, when we talk about these things, there was also a fake throw. It could have been a five-run penalty. That also could have gone our way, but unfortunately, even that didn’t materialise,”. Notably, Bangladesh could’ve won the if that had gone their way as they lost the game by exactly 5 runs.
According to the ICC, law 41.5 prohibits “deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of [the] batter”. If such a case occurs, the umpire has the right to award five runs to the batting side. However, in Kohli’s case, the batter didn’t see the action and was at no disadvantage.

Another controversy for Virat Kohli in Bangladesh clash
Sadly, it wasn’t the only controversy that involved Virat Kohli on the day. Earlier, Kohli was involved in an animated chat with Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who was left annoyed after the Indian batter asked for a no-ball from the leg-umpire following a second bouncer in the over.
Even former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who was in charge of the commentary at the time, didn’t hesitate to slam his country’s cricketer. He felt Kohli should control his aggression on the field. He also stated that Kohli was wrong to ask for a no-ball and it was well against the spirit of the game.
With their latest win, Rohit Sharma’s side are leading their group with six points under his bag. They have almost confirmed the semis berth. Team India will next lock horns against Zimbabwe on Sunday (November 6) in their last group stage match. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have minimal chance of heading into the next round.
