“Too bad it didn’t pay off”- Obed McCoy and Brandon King star as West Indies defeats India by 5 wickets despite Arshdeep’s stunning bowling
Obed McCoy
Obed McCoy’s brilliant spell of 6/17 helped West Indies bowl out India is the first innings. As West Indies defeated India by five wickets in the second T20I, both the teams have now won one match each of the five-match T20I series. The match took place on Monday, August 1 at the Warner Park.
Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, after coming out to bat, soon departed with all the credit to Obed McCoy. Only Hardik Pandya could get past 30 runs. McCoy then dismissed Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. India were all sent back to the dressing room on 138. McCoy scalped six wickets, bowled a maiden over and conceded just 17 runs in his four overs.
West Indies responded brilliantly although they struggled a bit at the start after losing Kyle Mayer‘s wicket. Brandon King scored most for Windies with the bat. He played 52 balls to score 68 runs with eight boundaries and two sixes. He became a victim of Avesh Khan’s yorker where the ball had crashed into the stumps.
West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran scored only 14 runs while Shimron Hetmyer scored six runs. Devon Thomas was the second highest run-scorer for West Indies in this match. He played 19 balls to score 31 runs.
Among the Indian bowlers, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Hardik Pandya, and Avesh Khan had scalped one wicket. West Indies reached the target in 19.2 overs with four balls to spare.
