MA Chidambaram Stadium, also known as Chepauk Stadium, is regarded as one of the important centers of cricket in India. Every big test series India hosts, the ground is one of the first names to be included. It is the 2nd oldest cricket stadium built in India.
It has hosted 23 ODI matches, with the first ODI being played in the 1987 ODI World Cup between India and Australia. It also hosted one match in the 1996 World Cup and 4 matches in the 2011 ODI World Cup.
Chepauk Stadium is also the home of the Chennai Super Kings, one of the most popular franchises in the Indian Premier League. It had undergone renovation in 2010, but got into some legal issues and the stands involved were then sealed. It finally got de-sealed in 2020 and the stadium also underwent some renovations before the 2023 ODI World Cup.
