“Ok, big man,” Andre Russell reveals on-field conversation with Rinku Singh during KKR vs PBKS
The KKR all-rounder revealed how Rinku was confident about winning it for his team when he hugged the KKR batter before leaving the field.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell played a match-winning knock (42 off 23) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday. However, while generally, it is Russell who finishes things off for KKR when he is there till the end, it was Rinku Singh who kept his calm and scored the winning runs. The Southpaw hit a boundary off the last ball of the 20th over to finish things off for KKR.
Punjab Kings were right in the game despite Russell thrashing Sam Curran in the 19th over as Arshdeep Singh bowled some brilliant deliveries in the last over. The left-arm pacer kept Russell as well as Rinku quiet by bowling the right areas. With Arshdeep nailing his deliveries, it all came down to two runs off the last two balls.
However, Andre Russell was run out while trying to sneak in a single and Punjab sensed they could win it. But it was Rinku Singh at the other end and the southpaw once again exhibited his finishing abilities as he hit Singh for a boundary. With Rinku at it yet again, Russell was asked about the conversation the two were having in the middle.
The KKR all-rounder revealed how Rinku was confident about winning it for his team when he hugged the KKR batter before leaving the field. “I gave him a hug and said listen, bring home the bacon for us,” Russell revealed. “He said ok big man, no worries.”
Russell bestows his trust in Rinku
Andre Russell also revealed how he had faith in Rinku’s abilities. The Jamaican said that he would not have ran that single off the second last delivery if it was someone else at the other end.
“In any other game, with any other batter, I am not sure I would have taken a run. I have never really done those things. I would rather back myself to bat the last delivery and get the job done,” Russell admitted. “But when you have a guy like Rinku who has been so successful at the death, it gives confidence. He is a fearless player; wherever you bowl, he has a shot,” he said
